Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about learning to draw with Drawize Academy. Quick answers about lessons, tools, pricing, and support.

General Questions

What is Drawize Academy?

Drawize Academy is an interactive art education platform designed to democratize elite-level art coaching. Built on the science of Deliberate Practice, it replaces passive video watching with active, hands-on training. You draw on your screen, and our "Pedagogical Engine" analyzes your strokes in real-time, providing the immediate feedback usually reserved for expensive private tuition.

Who is the team behind this?

Drawize Academy is developed by Lomboos, an independent studio founded by Tomislav Lombarovic. With over a decade of experience building creative platforms—most notably the global hit Drawize.com—Tomislav has seen firsthand how millions of users, including teachers and students worldwide, use drawing to communicate and learn. Drawize Academy is the evolution of that experience: a dedicated platform built specifically for the classroom.

Who is this course for?

  • The Frustrated Self-Learner: If you've tried YouTube or Udemy but quit because you didn't know why your drawings looked wrong.
  • Aspiring Designers & Engineers: Our training improves Visual-Spatial Processing - a cognitive skill linked to success in STEM, Architecture, and Engineering (Wai et al., 2009).
  • Neurodiverse Learners: Our system provides objective, non-judgmental feedback, creating a safe environment for students who may experience "critique anxiety" with human teachers.
  • Absolute Beginners: We use "Instructional Scaffolding" to break complex concepts into micro-steps.

Is this the same as the Drawize game?

No. Drawize is a multiplayer social game. Drawize Academy is a serious educational tool. While they share some technology, the Academy is focused entirely on skill acquisition and mastery.

Is Drawize Academy the same as the "CopyCat AI" game mode?

No.

CopyCat AI is a game mode that simply scores visual similarity for fun.

Drawize Academy uses a sophisticated "Pedagogical Logic Layer." It doesn't just match pixels; it understands perspective, form, and proportion. It acts as a teacher, identifying specific structural errors (like a tilted horizon line or incorrect ellipse) and guiding you on how to fix them.

The Science & Methodology

Is this based on educational research?

Yes. Our curriculum is built on two core scientific principles:

  • Deliberate Practice (Anders Ericsson): Skill acquisition is maximized not by passive observation, but by active attempts followed by immediate correction.
  • Formative Feedback (Hattie & Timperley): We eliminate the feedback lag found in traditional classrooms. Instead of waiting days for a teacher to grade your work, you get corrected instantly, allowing you to learn faster and retain more.

Does the AI draw for me? (Generative AI vs. Analytical AI)

Absolutely not. Unlike Generative AI tools (like Midjourney or DALL-E) that outsource creativity by drawing for you, Drawize Academy is Human-Centric AI.

  • We use AI to analyze your physical work, not to generate it.
  • Our goal is to build your human capacity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Think of Luna (our Interactive Art Mentor) as a gym trainer: she spots your errors so you can lift the weight yourself.

Why is this better than watching YouTube tutorials?

Video tutorials suffer from the "Passive Learning Trap." You can watch a master draw for hours, but without feedback on your own attempts, you will likely reinforce bad habits. Drawize Academy turns this into Active Learning. You cannot proceed until you master the step, ensuring you actually learn the skill rather than just watching someone else do it.

How It Works

How does the "Interactive Art Mentor" work?

Our proprietary "Pedagogical Engine" uses Computer Vision to deconstruct your sketch into objective geometric criteria. When you submit a drawing, the system checks for structural accuracy - such as vertical axis alignment or perspective convergence. It then delivers specific, actionable advice (e.g., "Your ellipse is too wide") so you can self-correct immediately.

What is the lesson format?

Each lesson contains multiple steps and follows the Draw → Submit → Correct loop:

  • Demo Step: Watch a replay of an artist completing the entire lesson. This shows you the goal and technique before you begin.
  • Draw Steps: The lesson is deconstructed into multiple bite-sized exercises. Each step focuses on a specific learning objective (e.g., "place the horizon and vanishing point" or "wrap an ellipse around a cylinder").
  • Structural Feedback: After submitting each drawing, our system analyzes proportion, perspective, and form - not pixel matching. You get specific guidance like "Your horizon line is tilted" rather than a generic score.
  • Iterate Until You Pass: Resubmit as many times as needed. You cannot advance to the next step until you demonstrate mastery of the current one - ensuring no foundational gaps.
  • Quiz Step: Each lesson concludes with one or two quick questions to reinforce what you learned.
  • Instructional Scaffolding: This structure keeps you in the "Productive Zone" - tasks just beyond your current ability but achievable with guidance.

What happens if I make a mistake?

Mistakes are encouraged! They are the primary way we learn. Because our feedback is instant and non-judgmental, you can iterate quickly. This rapid "Draw > Feedback > Correct" loop reduces the cognitive load of self-correction and accelerates learning.

Pricing & Access

Is Drawize Academy free?

You can try the first lesson completely free to experience the interactive feedback loop yourself. No credit card is required.

How much does it cost?

We are currently offering an Early Access Special: Lifetime Access for just $19.50 (50% off the regular price).

This grants you permanent access to the course you purchase, including all future updates to that course.

Note: Lifetime access applies to the specific course you buy, not the entire platform. As we expand with additional courses, each will be available for separate purchase.

Our mission is to provide the quality of a private tutor (which can cost $60+/hour) at 1% of the cost, making visual literacy accessible to everyone.

Is there a monthly subscription fee?

No. Currently, we operate on a one-time purchase model. You pay once and own the course forever.

What is the refund policy?

If the course does not meet your expectations, we offer a refund policy to ensure you are satisfied. Please check our terms for details.

Tools & Equipment

Do I need a drawing tablet?

Yes, we highly recommend it. While the software works with a mouse, learning to draw requires training your hand muscle memory. A stylus or drawing tablet (like Wacom, Huion, or an iPad with Pencil) allows you to practice the physical motor skills required for real-world drawing.

Do I need to install software?

No. Drawize Academy runs entirely in your browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge). Your progress is saved to the cloud, allowing you to practice from any device.

Support
